Cecilie Bahnsen SS26 Collection: Hana-bi, A Decade in Bloom
For Spring Summer 2026, Cecilie Bahnsen marked her ten-year anniversary with Hana-bi, a deeply personal show staged at Refshaleøen, the post-industrial Copenhagen peninsula that has become a crucible for creative reinvention. The venue’s raw concrete backdrop set the stage for a collection that was neither retrospective nor forward escape but a living portrait of the brand’s evolving ethos – delicate yet disruptive, ethereal yet grounded in craft.
The title, Hana-bi—Japanese for “fireworks” or “flower” fire—captured the collection’s dualities. The show opened in luminous white, blossomed into reflective silver, and moved through sculptural silhouettes softened by fabric, each look igniting like sparks that built into a quiet crescendo. It was less spectacle than poetry: transformation rendered in motion.
Rather than revisiting the past through repetition, Bahnsen reimagined it. A decade’s worth of textiles – Myrtia organza, Fiama fil-coupé, and quilted taffeta – were reworked into new expressions, familiar codes inverted or spliced into unexpected forms. Broderie anglaise met quilted silk, sequins shimmered beneath sheer volumes, hems shifted, and volumes expanded or collapsed. Each garment became a tactile memory, rewritten through craft and feeling.
The dialogue extended to footwear, with ASICS sneakers embroidered, foiled, and deconstructed, an emblem of Bahnsen’s ability to fuse pragmatism with poetry. Music by August Rosenbaum, layered with the haunting resonance of Beth Gibbons’ voice, carried the collection forward in a dreamlike drift as models moved through mist and light with painterly ease.
In a final gesture that blurred boundaries, select guests wore archive pieces, becoming part of the show’s living tableau. It was not just a celebration of a brand but a gathering of community, memory, and shared evolution. “It’s where everything began,” Bahnsen reflected on Copenhagen, a sentiment that underscored the intimacy of the moment.
Select looks from Hana-bi will be offered directly from the runway and through made-to-order appointments at Bahnsen’s newly opened Copenhagen boutique, an invitation to own not just a garment, but a fragment of the story. Ten years in, Cecilie Bahnsen continues to expand her universe with quiet conviction, proving that the most enduring fireworks bloom softly but with lasting light.
