Yuhan Wang’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection, Armor of Roses, unfolded at London Fashion Week as a haunting meditation on femininity, fragility, and strength. Inspired by David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, the collection captured the film’s dreamlike dualities – its interplay of idyllic beauty and underlying unease – through garments that fused vulnerability with resilience.

The runway read like a cinematic tableau. Ethereal lace slip dresses, ruched and semi-transparent, revealed a tender delicacy yet were reinforced with metallic jersey panels and corset-like bodices that suggested protection. Dusty roses and faded blues softened the palette, their sweetness punctuated by chrome accents, echoing Lynch’s tension between light and darkness. One of the season’s most striking statements, a draped silk dress with porcelain-doll appliqués, was grounded by a sharply cut bolero clasped with sculptural rose fastenings: a literal and poetic “armor of roses”.

Symbolism threads throughout the collection. Blue dice appeared as prints and charms, a nod to Lynch’s iconic cube, while veiled headpieces evoked the surreal theatricality of Club Silencio. Wang’s silhouettes oscillated between the everyday and the cinematic: rose-embroidered knits and jersey dresses seamlessly transitioned into evening gowns with armor-like shoulders, underscoring her exploration of where fragility dissolves into strength.

True to her ethos, sustainability remained integral. Fabrics sourced from deadstock metallic mesh, lace, and upcycled silks reinforced the collection’s narrative of reconstruction, piecing fragments into something enduring. This layering of material and meaning gave the garments both ecological and emotional resonance.

If at times the density of references risked overstatement, the collection’s strongest moments lay in its equilibrium when symbolism and silhouette worked in harmony, allowing drape, detail, and movement to articulate the vision without excess.

With Armor of Roses, Wang reaffirmed her position as one of London’s most distinctive voices. Hers is a romanticism edged with defiance, a vision of women as both delicate and unbreakable, caught in the liminal space between dream and reality, fragility and power.
