Collina Strada SS27 Colection: A Fantastical Vision of a Greener Future
Collina Strada presented a capsule for the Spring/Summer 2027, in front of Copenhagen's Opera House during Copenhagen Fashion Week, bringing together Danish fairy-tale romance and the irreverent spirit of the American Dream. Created in collaboration with CPHFW and Climate Pledge, the presentation reflected founder Hillary Taymour's commitment to more responsible fashion, with every look crafted entirely from materials already existing in the studio and no new fabrics produced.
Freed from the usual commercial demands of a conventional collection, Taymour embraced an intensely handcrafted approach, allowing intricate ideas to take shape without compromise. One dress incorporated 18 different materials, while hand-tucked details, elaborate embellishments, and delicate constructions demanded months of work. Despite their technical complexity, the pieces retained an airy, almost otherworldly lightness.
The visual language moved between medieval romance, Rococo extravagance, and the dreamlike world of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid. Rounded mille-feuille fabric forms, floating sheers, floral appliqués resembling sea urchins, and strands of tinsel evoking seaweed created an enchanting waterfront tableau. Biodegradable glitter illuminated the models, while shimmering hair and wind-caught fabrics heightened the sense of fantasy.
Yet beneath the spectacle was a clear message. Rather than embracing the tragedy of Andersen's heroine, Taymour offered her own ending: one in which imagination, beauty, and a commitment to climate responsibility lead towards a more hopeful future.
