McQueen returned to its London roots for Spring/Summer 2027, with Seán McGirr presenting his latest vision of the house during London Fashion Week. Staged within the atmospheric undercroft of Lincoln’s Inn Chapel, the collection brought together the grandeur of historic London with the restless energy of the city’s nightlife, creating a setting that felt both sacred and subversive.

McGirr built the collection around a striking dialogue between Piero della Francesca’s The Baptism of Christ and the intensity of British rave culture. That tension between purity and provocation became the foundation for a wardrobe in which sharply tailored silhouettes collided with distorted proportions, expressive embellishment, and an unmistakable sense of nocturnal energy.

Tailoring remained central, developed in collaboration with Huntsman and shaped with echoes of Tommy Nutter’s disruptive Savile Row aesthetic. Closed shoulders suggested folded angel wings, while substantial leather collars introduced a harder, more rebellious edge. The contrast continued through hair and styling, where twin-peaked silhouettes evoked the charged image of rave-era British rock culture.

Eveningwear embraced a similarly electric contradiction. Grand, almost classical gowns were disrupted by Shaun Leane harnesses, sculptural distortions, and open-back corsetry, while lacquered satin, stretched fabrics, and flashes of diffuse colour created an impression of lights dissolving across a crowded dance floor. Metallic leaves appeared scattered across tailoring and dresses, while a remarkable gown of individually hand-embroidered metal skulls brought McQueen’s darker vocabulary into strikingly intricate focus.

Mesh, perforated leather, sporty knit separates, and manipulated jacquards pushed the collection further towards rave-inflected dressing, allowing ornamentation to become increasingly fragmented and dynamic. Yet beneath the darkness was a sense of liberation rather than menace. McGirr embraces the house’s affinity for darker imagery while transforming it into something celebratory, energetic, and alive.

With Spring/Summer 2027, McQueen finds beauty in contradiction, where Gothic grandeur meets metropolitan rebellion, and discipline gives way to release. The collection ultimately becomes a dance between shadow and euphoria, capturing the restless spirit of London through a distinctly McQueen lens.
