Isabel Marant SS27 Collection: A Sun-Faded Reverie of Parisian Ease
For Spring/Summer 2027, presented during Paris Fashion Week, Isabel Marant looks beyond the Parisian codes synonymous with the house, turning instead to the hazy sensuality of 1960s Los Angeles. Creative Director Kim Bekker found inspiration in Sam Haskins’ evocative book of photographs, drawn to its softly illuminated women and translucent, sun-washed palette. The collection marked a deliberate shift in tone, embracing a quieter and more pared-back femininity while retaining the effortless attitude at the heart of Marant.
Presented in the gardens of the Palais Royal, the collection unfolded with an air of relaxed sensuality. Marant’s signature layering was softened into silhouettes that appeared at once dishevelled, semi-dressed and alluring, rendered in faded beige, sage, white, black, pink and lilac. Short, weightless dresses arrived in hand-drawn florals and paisley, revisiting motifs from the house’s Summer 2013 archives with delicate bead and button embellishment that animated each look with subtle movement.
Black and white offered a striking counterpoint, stripping back the exuberance of pattern and allowing the silhouettes to speak more clearly. British and French style icons informed the mood, evoking the insouciant glamour of Lou Doillon and the late Jane Birkin on the French Riviera. Macramé dresses, in particular, captured the collection’s dialogue between collected vintage and contemporary femininity while also introducing an artisanal richness that feels increasingly relevant.
The revival of the capri trousers continued, updated with macramé fringe and styled with a featherweight leather blouson. Elsewhere, rounded shoulders shaped a white eyelet bomber and a softly structured double-layered cotton jacket, paired with English eyelet trousers. Prints were elevated through intricate embroidery and delicate beading, while macramé extended even into the accessories, including relaxed, sculptural flats.
For Bekker, this renewed emphasis on craftsmanship offered a distinctly human counterpoint to the increasingly digital fashion landscape. Isabel Marant Spring/Summer 2027 finds its intrigue in the meeting of nostalgia, artisanal technique, and modern restraint, a softer chapter that leaves the door open for Bekker to further define the house’s evolving vocabulary.
