Liandra Resort 2026: A Cultural Tapestry at Australia Fashion Week
Making a powerful statement at Australia Fashion Week, the Liandra Resort 2026 collection was a celebration of First Nations identity, cultural storytelling, and modern Australian design. As one of the standout shows of the season, designer Liandra Gaykamangu continued to fuse her Yolŋu heritage with contemporary resortwear silhouettes, offering a vibrant, empowering, and deeply personal collection.
Rooted in Liandra’s mission to create pieces that spark dialogue and connection, Resort 2026 was titled “Rooted in Strength”, and it lived up to its name. The show opened with soft silhouettes in rich earthy tones—ochres, sun-washed reds, and deep greens—that echoed the natural Australian landscape. Each piece was embedded with custom-designed prints that told stories from Yolŋu Country, representing waterholes, kinship, and pathways passed down through generations.
Sustainable fabrics and ethical production methods remained central to the collection. Flowing linen jumpsuits, organic cotton co-ords, and swimwear in recycled nylon were elevated through precise tailoring and bold print placements. Swim pieces were versatile and functional—designed not only for the beach but styled for streetwear with matching sarongs, lightweight pants, and overshirts.
The show’s casting highlighted inclusivity and Indigenous representation, featuring a diverse group of models with strong ties to community. Barefoot on a runway set with sand, rocks, and native flora, they moved with ease and pride, underscoring the brand’s grounding in land, tradition, and modern empowerment.
Standout looks included a strapless maxi dress featuring a map-like print of cultural significance, oversized unisex shirts with narrative motifs, and a series of wrap dresses and sets in vibrant ocean blues—paying homage to water as a source of life and strength in Yolŋu culture.
Liandra’s Resort 2026 was not just a collection—it was a living, wearable archive of Indigenous storytelling and self-determination. With her bold vision and unwavering authenticity, Liandra continues to redefine resortwear through a cultural lens, setting a high bar for the future of fashion in Australia and beyond.
