Aiayu SS26 Collection: Twenty Times Around the Sun
For Spring Summer 2026, Aiayu marked its 20th anniversary with a debut show at Copenhagen Fashion Week that was less a spectacle and more a meditation. Titled Twenty Times Around The Sun, the presentation unfolded as a living archive at the Nils Stærk contemporary art gallery, blurring the boundaries between fashion, performance, and installation.
Founded in 2005 by Maria Høgh Heilmann, Aiayu has long been defined by its materials-first philosophy, rooted in global craftsmanship and natural fibers. This milestone show reflected on that journey with a poetic staging: tree stumps arranged as sculptural seating, archival films tracing the brand’s partnerships with artisans in Bolivia, India, and Portugal, and LED boards quietly displaying the collection’s title as a gesture of low-impact modernity.
The collection itself embodied Aiayu’s ethos of longevity and tactility. Silhouettes were understated yet purposeful, rendered in organic cottons, handwoven textures, and a muted palette that spoke more to permanence than trend. Movement was slowed to a meditative pace, with models walking deliberately through the space to ambient instrumentals and field recordings, echoing the brand’s steady, twenty-year evolution.
Aiayu’s first runway appearance was not about novelty but continuity. It honored its origins, its global community of makers, and its vision for a future where sustainability and beauty are inseparable. In a week that often prizes spectacle, Aiayu offered stillness, reminding the industry that the most enduring statements are those made with care, patience, and intention.
