RYUNOSUKEOKAZAKI FW26-27 Collection: Sculpting the Invisible
After a four-year absence from the runway, RYUNOSUKEOKAZAKI returned in Tokyo with 005, a Fall/Winter 2026–2027 collection that feels less like a seasonal reset and more like a continuation of an evolving dialogue. Rooted in the designer’s enduring exploration of “prayer,” the narrative turns inward this season, shifting from outward expression to a more introspective and emotionally nuanced terrain.
This sensibility is most strikingly expressed through sculptural dresses composed of semi-circular forms that radiate from the body. Expanding outward in multiple directions, these silhouettes read as spatial translations of internal states, less about shaping the figure and more about externalizing feeling. They function almost as emotional cartographies, mapping complexity through volume and structure.
In counterpoint, a series of pared-back pieces, velvet dresses cut close to the body, and satin garments shaped through controlled draping introduce a quieter register. Rather than simply balancing the collection, these restrained looks sharpen the impact of the more architectural forms, creating a dialogue where each amplifies the presence of the other.
Even within ostensibly wearable garments, subtle distortions persist. Sleeves extend beyond expected proportions, skirts hold a gentle rigidity away from the body, and familiar silhouettes are quietly unsettled. These interventions introduce a sense of tension, suggesting that the language of everyday dress can still carry underlying dissonance.

Animal motifs, leopard and python, appear alongside faux leather accessories, evoking both nature and its reproduction. Structured checks, tartans, and stripes introduce another layer, referencing systems of uniformity and collective identity. Together, these elements position imitation as both a visual device and a social commentary.
An unexpected rose motif weaves through the collection, introducing a note of spontaneity. Its presence disrupts the otherwise controlled framework, allowing for a more instinctive, less resolved expression, an acknowledgment that emotional landscapes rarely adhere to strict logic.
Fall/Winter 2026–2027 resists singular interpretation. Instead, it operates through contrast between structure and fluidity, precision and chance, and individuality and collective codes. In doing so, RYUNOSUKEOKAZAKI continues to position fashion as a medium for exploring the unseen, where garments become vessels for the complexities of inner life.
