Jane Wade has never designed for invisibility, but Fall/Winter 2026–2027 delivered her vision with striking narrative focus. Staged in a Williamsburg warehouse transformed into a moss-covered, tree-lined landscape, the show unfolded as a cinematic act of departure: a woman stepping out of corporate rigidity and into the wilderness in pursuit of autonomy and reinvention. Titled The Summit, the collection framed this transition as a heroine’s journey, an ascent away from the “corporate machine era” toward something instinctive, risky, and self-defined.

The tension between office codes and outdoor survival gear has long been central to Wade’s aesthetic, yet here it felt more theatrical and emotionally resonant. Structured tailoring collided with hiking equipment, ski patrol references, and mythic woodland figures. An early standout, a sharply cinched off-white funnel-neck jacket punctuated with utilitarian pockets, captured the duality with precision: protective yet polished, functional yet sculptural. As the narrative progressed, models embodied archetypes ranging from uniformed guides to surreal trail spirits, culminating in crocheted paracord gowns crowned with elaborate headpieces that blurred practicality and fantasy.

Material experimentation marked a confident evolution. While cotton poplin remained foundational, Wade expanded her vocabulary with nylon and paracord, pushing the boundaries of what “corp-GORP” can mean. An aqua nylon dress manipulated by drawcords, simultaneously shaping the body and creating volume, stood out as a persuasive synthesis of utility and sensuality. Nylon corsets reinforced with tent-pole-inspired boning further demonstrated her inventive approach to structure, translating camping hardware into couture-adjacent engineering.

Not every conceptual flourish resolved seamlessly. Wade’s penchant for visual wit occasionally veered into overt literalism, most notably in a dress featuring a tent-pole hem that risked diluting the collection’s emotional gravity. Yet even these moments signaled a designer willing to stretch her ideas to their limits, refining her language through experimentation rather than restraint.

For a label still defining its long-term identity, Fall/Winter 2026–2027 marked a meaningful progression. Wade’s universe feels increasingly cohesive, her technical ambitions more assured, and her storytelling sharper. The next evolution lies in editing, learning to distill without diminishing her eccentric energy.
