Berlin Fashion Week witnessed a compelling fusion of sustainability, architecture and retrofuturism as Selva Huygens unveiled its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, AEROSPATIAL, on July 5 at Weltwirtschaft am Haus der Kulturen der Welt.

Conceived as a meditation on transformation, memory and humanity's enduring fascination with the future, AEROSPATIAL revisits the optimistic visions of the 1960s Space Age through a contemporary lens. Drawing inspiration from retrofuturist aesthetics, Brutalist architecture and forgotten dreams of technological progress, the collection reconstructs an imagined tomorrow using fragments of today's reality.

The runway unfolded as a cinematic narrative across three distinct chapters.
The opening act, The Dream, celebrated the optimism of the Space Age with elegant A-line and trapeze silhouettes illuminated beneath warm, sunset-inspired lighting. The atmosphere evoked an era when humanity believed limitless possibilities lay beyond the stars.

The mood shifted dramatically in The Collision, where cooler lighting introduced a more industrial landscape. Here, salvaged automotive components were transformed into sculptural, armour-like garments, symbolising the confrontation between utopian ambition and material reality.
The final chapter, Reconstruction, offered a hopeful resolution. Previously rigid structural elements were refined into fluid, wearable silhouettes as warmer lighting returned to the runway, representing resilience, renewal and the reinvention of the future.

At the heart of AEROSPATIAL remains Selva Huygens' unwavering commitment to circular fashion. More than 90 percent of the collection is crafted from upcycled, recycled and deadstock materials. Among them are found objects collected throughout Berlin during a performative collection walk, alongside premium deadstock textiles sourced through Beglarian Fabrics, reinforcing the label's dedication to sustainable innovation.

The collection's title references the historic French aerospace company Aérospatiale, recalling a period when Europe embraced technological ambition and space exploration with boundless optimism. Inspired by filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris—particularly the notion that humanity needs mirrors rather than new worlds—the collection reflects on which fragments of our once-imagined future still resonate in today's society.
