Big Park SS27 Collection: The Art of Reimagining Tradition

Big Park presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, EXPANDED CONTINUUM, on September 4 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul, offering a thoughtful reflection on how fashion can evolve without severing its connection to the past. Rooted in nearly 45 years of Park Youn-soo’s tailoring heritage, the collection proposes that true innovation can emerge through refinement, extension, and the rebalancing of familiar ideas.

The runway itself embodied the concept, with models moving along a raised, linear platform in close proximity, creating a visual dialogue between what has been and what is becoming. The presentation opened with an almost dreamlike image: a voluminous silver-toned dress scattered with orange dots, accompanied by a delicate floral arrangement worn around the shoulders, establishing an unexpectedly romantic contrast to the precision of the tailoring that followed.

Flowers and suiting became the collection's defining duality. Bold botanical prints appeared across shirts, blouses, and voluminous dresses, with pleats and generous proportions bringing the fabrics to life through movement. At the foundation remained Park's expertise in tailoring, expressed through sharply defined shoulders, classic striped suits, and cropped jackets with deliberately altered proportions. Semi-balloon trousers introduced fresh volume, while denim-effect patchwork trousers, crisp white shirts, and oversized collars added a youthful contemporary edge.

An experimental spirit emerged through unfinished hems, exposed fraying, and fabrics deliberately spliced and reconstructed, suggesting garments that had been taken apart and thoughtfully assembled again. The colour story followed the same philosophy, beginning with ivory, grey, charcoal, and white before erupting into turquoise, magenta, cobalt, and mustard. Three-dimensional floral textiles and layered silver polka-dot skirts added further depth and movement.

Perhaps the collection's most evocative gesture was its use of dried flowers, tassels, and preserved foliage placed around the shoulder or waist. Rather than representing fresh beginnings, these elements suggested time held in suspension, objects carrying traces of what came before. EXPANDED CONTINUUM ultimately transforms heritage into something fluid and progressive, drawing from the past without simply reproducing it and creating new proportions, textures, and balances in its place.
