Rodarte SS27 Collection: A Romantic Reverie in Bloom
For Spring/Summer 2027, Kate and Laura Mulleavy present Rodarte through a 25-look collection steeped in romanticism, sculptural volume, and an almost ethereal sense of movement. The story begins with a Renaissance-inspired maiden, imagined as an Ophelia with a happier fate, adorned with woven and fresh flowers. Longtime collaborator Joseph Free further enriched the opening look with handcrafted floral earrings and a belt, establishing the collection’s poetic atmosphere.
An Empire silhouette takes centre stage in one of the collection’s most arresting looks, defined by a curved neckline, elongated lace-edged sleeves, and flower-shaped jewels tracing the neckline and armlets. Yet beneath the collection’s narrative allure lies a more considered exploration of colour and form. The Mulleavys focused on dramatic sleeves and silhouettes that amplify the upper body before cascading into fluid gowns and expansive hemlines, creating the sensation of garments caught in a gentle breeze.
That feeling of movement is heightened through a delicate vocabulary of lace, translucent tulle, wispy chiffon, and soft georgette. Trains extend from the hand, adorned with flowers that encourage a sense of wafting motion, while bias-cut silk and satin introduce a more sensual counterpoint, tracing the body through slip and empire shapes. The renewed emphasis on Empire dressing feels particularly evocative, conjuring the romantic world of Sense and Sensibility and its enduring appeal of escapism and nostalgia.
Across the 25 looks, a consistent silhouette is continually refreshed through colour, texture, and intricate finishing. Soft pastels are punctuated by velvet ribbons and ostrich feathers, while layered lace combinations bring remarkable depth and tactility. Chantilly paired with Leavers lace, alongside Chantilly and corded lace, creates richer, more dimensional surfaces, reinforcing Rodarte’s distinctive ability to transform delicacy into drama.
With Spring/Summer 2027, Rodarte continues to inhabit its own dreamlike universe, where romance is expressed through movement, craftsmanship, and sculptural femininity. The result is a collection that feels timeless yet vividly alive, suspended somewhere between historical fantasy and modern couture sensibility.
